The Atlantic slave trade: What too few textbooks told you - Anthony Hazard
In this enthralling work of historical fiction, we witness the devastating legacy of the Atlantic slave trade on both sides of the ocean. The author guides us through parallel generations of two branches of the same family, bouncing back and forth between Ghana and the U.S., warfare and chattel bondage, colonialism and Jim Crow. With a deft hand, Yaa Gyasi is able to link individual stories into an edifying, bittersweet distillation of the African diaspora. While I found it upsetting at times, I still can’t recommend it enough.
