The World Without Us takes you on a trip through earth’s history, touching everything from towering primordial forests to modern day subway tunnels. Alan Weismann brings in paleontologists and botanists alongside engineers and farmers to imagine a world in which humanity has vanished. And without human characters to anchor us, chapters are free to follow more enigmatic protagonists like invasive plants, ancient megafauna, and omnivorous microorganisms from a far-flung future. But perhaps most surprisingly of all, he manages to make a planet without us a world you feel even more deeply connected to.
